First day of autumn
Sept 23, 2010 – at AM Radio’s build – Surface

In a letter written in September, 1819 to his friend John Hamilton Reynolds from Winchester, after a September walk along a river bank, John Keats wrote:

"’How beautiful the season is now–How fine the air. A temperate sharpness about it. Really, without joking, chaste weather–Dian skies–I never liked stubble-fields so much as now–Aye better than the chilly green of the spring. Somehow, a stubble-field looks warm–in the same way that some pictures look warm. This struck me so much in my Sunday’s walk that I composed upon it.”

" Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?
Think not of them, thou hast thy music too,-
While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day,
And touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue;
Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn
Among the river sallows, borne aloft
Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;
And gathering swallows twitter in the skies. "

-John Keats – third stanza from his poem "To Autumn" -1819

ireport.cnn.com I was standing next to the Seine River and heard a sound. It was the sound of a large tour bus jumping a two step curb onto a sidewalk. The bus kept going and rolled right into the river. By this time I was pulling my camera out and running. I got bumped on the side by a guy and took a fall, sliding right on my camera. Got up, ran to the scene and started the video in the process. This happened around 8:00pm July 29, 2010. Fortunately no one was hurt, besides me taking a tumble on the way over.

October 2010 – at AM Radio’s build – The Quiet: Further Away and Further Apart

I love the image and sound of the geese flying across AM’s build – The Quiet. I really like the way the sound changes as they approach, fly overhead and then disappear. In Chinese poetry, it is said that a flock of wild geese flying represents homesickness. As they fly overhead, they are said to be taking away the "heart’s sorrow".

A back stress fracture has ended Josh Hazlewood’s chances of a debut Test in India next month
Aug 27, 2010 6:11pm
The final game of this three-Test series was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, at the time notorious for its low-paced and variable wicket. Greg Chappell won the toss and inserted the Indians, hoping to break through their strong top order, however it also consigned the Australians to batting last. Lillee and Pascoe rattled through India's batting card, taking seven wickets between them, and the tourists were struggling at 7/164. However a brave and skilful knock from vice-captain Gundappa Viswanath (114), along with useful contributions from Kirmani and Ghavri, helped India to 237, a respectable score on a difficult pitch. Australia required 143 for victory in just over a day, a seemingly small target made all the more difficult by a fired up Indian attack, the dodgy Melbourne wicket and more controversial umpiring. John Dyson fell first, adjudged caught behind off his thigh pad, a decision that must have soothed Gavaskar's foul mood. Next ball, Ghavri bowled Chappell around his legs, a critical wicket. When Kirmani pulled off a superb legside stumping to dismiss Wood, Australia was reeling at 3/18. Doshi removed Hughes then Kapil Dev stepped up to join in the wicket feast. Bowling stump to stump, Kapil made the most of the variable bounce and claimed the last five wickets of the Test. India's stunning come-from-behind victory levelled the three-Test series 1-1. Viswanath was awarded man of the match honours for his plucky first innings century. Match scorecard: www.cricinfo.com Yours in cricket, The Third Ump

India's task was to wipe off the 182-run first innings deficit and set Australia some kind of target on the rapidly deteriorating MCG surface. Their openers, Gavaskar and Chauhan, started brightly, riding their luck but also playing some terrific shots. They were 108 without loss after the third day and made their way to 165 on day four, before controversy erupted. A low 'grubber' struck Gavaskar (70) in front and he was given out LBW, despite appearing to have hit the ball. Protesting vehemently, Gavaskar trudged off and ordered fellow opener Chauhan to leave the field with him. For a time it seemed as though the Indian captain might forfeit the innings and thus the match, however cooler heads prevailed. Chauhan returned to guide India to 324, top-scoring with 85 and receiving support from Vengsarkar, Viswanath and Patil. Australia was set a fourth innings target of 143 for victory. Dennis Lillee captured his second four-wicket haul for the game, in the process passing Richie Benaud's record of 248 wickets – then the highest number of Test wickets by an Australian bowler. Australia began poorly, losing Dyson at 30 then Wood two runs later. Kim Hughes looked in punishing form before throwing his wicket away just before lunch on day two, then Greg Chappell added 108 for the fourth wicket with Allan Border. The latter brought up his century and received good support from Doug Walters (78) then Rod Marsh (45). Australia's final total was 419, a sizeable one given the conditions. Dilip Doshi bowled his left-arm spin splendidly for India, picking up three wickets. Match scorecard: www.cricinfo.com Yours in cricket, The Third Ump

India had Australia in early trouble, capturing the wickets of Slater and Blewett cheaply to leave the home side at 2/49. However Justin Langer dug in and became the anchor for a big Australian score – albeit thanks to some wayward bowling and four close decisions that went in his favour. Langer's 223 contained 30 fours and set a new record for an individual score in all Australia-India Tests. He was ably supported by a brisk 141 from Ricky Ponting, the pair adding 190 for the fifth wicket. Australia closed at 5/552, leaving India to score more than 400 just to make Australia bat a second time. Match scorecard: www.cricinfo.com Yours in cricket, The Third Ump

The crowd, the commentators and even the opposition was shocked when Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar won the toss and elected to bowl on a typical Adelaide batting paradise. With Australia piling on 528 runs in just over five sessions, Gavaskar undoubtedly rued his decision – though it may have been partly justified if Kirmani hadn't dropped Graeme Wood before the left-hander had scored. The Australian openers added 84 but the true highlight came later through Kim Hughes' masterly 214, his highest Test score. With its impeccable cover-driving off both front and back foot, Hughes' knock was one of the most attractive Test innings seen at the Adelaide Oval, if not in Australia. More sedate but just as important was Wood's 125 and a half-century from Allan Border. The spinners, Dilip Doshi and Shivlal Yadav, toiled bravely for India and took seven wickets between them. Australia set the Indians 331 in two-and-a-half sessions, and any thoughts of an unlikely Indian victory were quashed after Len Pascoe removed Gavaskar, Chauhan and Viswanath with good accurate fast bowling. When Vengsarkar was unluckily given out, caught at slip from his boot, it was 5/90 and an Australian win seemed likely. The man for the hour was Yashpal Sharma, who produced one of the slowest Test innings in recent memory. Yashpal batted for almost three hours and faced 157 balls in scoring just 13 – and that score included two boundaries. He was assisted in his fight by Syed Kirmani (14 from 81) and Karsan Ghavri, who saw off the last over from Dennis Lillee. The Indian fightback proved a turning point as they looked forward to Melbourne, the third and final Test of the series. Match scorecard: www.cricinfo.com Yours in cricket, The Third Ump
