LibertyFest in Edmond, Oklahoma was selected as one of the top 10 places to be in America on July 4th by CNN & USA Today. CANOE LAKE CHALLENGE This video sets out the parameters of an academic challenge that was given out by the Going Miles Youth Society and accepted by youth at the Canoe Lake Cree First Nation in northern Saskatchewan in Canada. These youth dont want a hand out or even a hand up, they want access to being able to tell their stories and collective narratives. This challenge is about the youth being successful at education and in return being given an opportunity to do a PSA around the issue of suicide. Ledesma, husband of actress Assunta de Rossi, was also absent during President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's State of the Nation Address (SONA) last year. While he was present at her 2007 and 2008 SONAs, journal records show he appeared after the roll call, indicating that he may have arrived late, GMA News Ivan Mayrina said in a report aired over the "24 Oras" news program. The four-term lawmaker was present only thrice at all sessions last year: on April 21, when the chamber discussed House Resolution 737 which proposes amendments to the 1987 Constitution's economic provisions, once in October and another in November, a review of the House of Representatives session journals for 2009 also showed. In the meantime, Ledesma has principally authored three measures, all of them local bills, according to a Congress website search of measures he filed. He co-authored at least 20 other measures. The House of Representatives holds plenary sessions from Mondays to Wednesdays. Several media outlets (the vast majority conservative) were left with egg on their faces after they trumpeted up the tale of a McCain volunteer who claimed to have been assaulted by a large black man because of a McCain bumper sticker on her car. On her face was carved a backwards 'B' (meant to represent Obama's name). The Drudge Report called it "mutilation." It was a hoax. And now, some in the fourth estate are left to explain why they pushed this apparent political ploy. Those in the business who showed some prudence are calling out their competitors for taking the bait. On CNN today, anchor Rick Sanchez did just that, naming the outlets that not only reported but actively pushed the story of Ashley Todd. In addition to explaining why his station didn't report the story, Sanchez dug the knife in a bit deeper when it came to Hugh Hewitt, the conservative radio talk show host who appeared on CNN Thursday and blamed "that side" (ie the Democrats) for engaging in "extraordinarily" "Part of the story is the fact that it was reported by the media," said Sanchez. Leaders from the Uniformed Firefighters Association joined by City Council Criminal Justice Committee Chair Elizabeth Crowley, Council Member Margaret Chin, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, New York City Firefighters and community activists turned out at Engine 4 at the South Street Seaport to protest budget cuts that threaten to reduce staffing levels and close firehouses. The Mayor has threatened to close at least 20 fire companies and as many as 60 fire companies on July 1, 2010, the beginning of the new fiscal year. The last five years have been the busiest in the nearly 150 year history of the FDNY, yet City Hall still wants to close firehouses. A governments number one priority is to provide for the safety and protection of its citizens, but if proposed staffing cuts and firehouse closures are enacted it will dramatically increase in the time it takes to get a fire truck or an ambulance to an emergency and as result, civilians and firefighters will die," said UFA President Steve Cassidy. Firehouses in downtown Manhattan respond to major tourist attractions, transit hubs and potential terrorist targets including Wall Street, The World Financial Center, The World Trade Center, The Federal Office Building, the State and Federal Courts, as well as Chinatown the South Street Seaport and Little Italy, just to name a few. CNN issued a statement Thursday announcing that anchor Rick Sanchez is no longer with the network after giving a radio interview in which he insinuated Jon Stewart was a bigot and CNN was "run by Jews." "Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company," the statement read. "We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well." Sanchez keeps proving Glenn Becks point which is"Rick Sanchez is the dumbest man on Television." Un-friggin-believable. Keep in mind Sanchez killed a man while driving drunk. n December 10, 1990, Sanchez struck a drunken pedestrian, Jeffrey Smuzinick, with his car on a residential street near Dolphin Stadium (then known as Joe Robbie Stadium) and left the scene, returning two hours later.[2] Smuzinick was paralyzed and eventually died in an assisted living facility on November 2, 1995.[3][2] Sanchez had just left an NFL football game with his father when the accident occurred. Police breathalyzer results determined that Sanchez's blood alcohol level was above the legal limit for driving. He was not charged with causing the accident, but was charged with and pleaded no contest to driving under the influence (DUI).
