Democratic presumptive presidential nominee Barack Obama vowed Wednesday he would work to "eliminate" the threat posed by Iran to security in the Middle East and around the globe. "There's no greater threat to Israel or to the peace and stability of the region than Iran," he told the American Israel Public Affairs Council (AIPAC). "The danger from Iran is grave and real and my goal will be to eliminate this threat," he said, adding loudly to add emphasis that he would "everything" to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. "The Iranian regime supports violent extremes. And challenges across the region. It pursues a nuclear capability that could spark a dangerous arms race," he told AIPAC's annual meeting in Washington. Calling for "aggressive, principled diplomacy" to tackle the problem of the Islamic regime in Tehran, he also warned he would never take the military option off the table in guaranteeing US and Israeli security. "As president of the United States, I would be willing to lead tough and principled diplomacy with the appropriate Iranian leader at a time and place of my choosing — if, and only if — it can advance the interests of the United States." www.metimes.com Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama may have taken care of his Hamas problem on Wednesday with a speech to the AIPAC pro-Israel lobby. The Illinois senator was ridiculed, criticized and generally harassed back in April when a top Hamas adviser, Ahmed Yousef, told a radio interviewer …

Obama expected to announce Emanuel's exit Friday (AP) — 29 minutes ago WASHINGTON — The White House says President Barack Obama will make a personnel announcement Friday. It's widely expected to be the departure of his chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel. Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs would not confirm that the announcement is about Emanuel, but two people close to Emanuel say he will resign on Friday to begin his campaign for Chicago mayor. The president is also expected to name an interim chief of staff, likely to be senior adviser Pete Rouse. Gibbs said the president has "complete loyalty and trust" in Rouse, though he wouldn't confirm that Rouse had been tapped for the interim post. The president is likely to choose a permanent chief of staff after the Nov. 2 midterm elections.

Under section 6104 of the bill, entitled Duties, in subsection B6, the legislation states that a commission will be set up to investigate, Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds. Section 120 of the bill also discusses the Youth Engagement Zone Program and states that service learning will be a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency. The legislation, slated to cost $6 billion over five years, would create 175000 new service opportunities under AmeriCorps, bringing the number of participants in the national volunteer program to 250000. Did you support the Patriot Act. I did. My whole family is Republican. I worked for Bush's campaign. I thought the Patriot Act only applied to terrorists. I was wrong. It is part of a systematic stripping of our rights that started under Jimmy Carter. I trusted Bush, now Obama is going to use these powers to create his police state. Don't believe me? He and Rahm Emanuel want to create a civilian force that's just as powerful as the military, they said it themselves, check my other videos. Bills are already being passed in congress for mandatory volunteerism. After HR 1388 passed the house with the following language so many people were upset it was taken out in subsequent bills: "Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds." www.govtrack.us HR 1388 GIVE Act A bill entitled "The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, an Act to reauthorize and reform the national service laws." www.opencongress.org After they take the language out it's like it was never there to begin with. In the above site I found the language in the bill myself three weeks ago, now it's gone.
